Grade average and distinction calculator
Enter the grades from your certificate to see your average, what is missing for the “czerwony pasek” and how many admission points it gives.
What is the condition for the “czerwony pasek”?
A grade average of at least 4.75 and behaviour of at least “bardzo dobre” (very good). It applies to promotion from class 4 of primary school and to finishing school.
- The average includes compulsory subjects and any additional classes the pupil attended.
- Religion and ethics have not counted towards the average since the 2024/2025 school year. The grade still appears on the certificate. In a ruling of 22 May 2025 the Constitutional Tribunal found these provisions unconstitutional, but in June 2025 the ruling had not been published in the Journal of Laws, and the ministry treated the regulation as still in force. We found no newer ministry position. This calculator follows the published provision and the ministry’s notice; if in doubt, ask the school.
- The behaviour grade is not part of the average: it is a separate condition. It does not apply to pupils under Article 37(4) of the Education Law (home education).
- The rule provides for no rounding, so 4.75 itself is what counts: 4.74 is not enough. That is why we show the average cut to two decimals, never rounded up.
- In secondary school admissions, a primary school leaving certificate with distinction gives 7 points. Secondary school points calculator →
To work it out yourself: add all grades that count and divide by how many there are. Example: 15 grades totalling 72 average 4.80, while a total of 71 averages 4.73 and misses the distinction.
