Which days are off by law, when the winter break falls in your voivodeship, and who really decides on extra days off.
Is 11 November a day off school?
Yes. Wednesday 11 November 2026 is National Independence Day, a statutory day off work, so there are no lessons that day.
Tuesday 10 and Thursday 12 November are not statutory days off. They are lesson-free only if your school’s head has set them as such.

Classes end on 25 June 2027. Final-year classes in general and technical secondary schools and second-stage vocational schools finish on 30 April 2027. These dates are for public schools; art schools and some adult schools have separate rules or dates.
Extra days off: the school decides
This is the common name for additional lesson-free days. There is no single list for Poland: each head sets them for their own school, after consulting the school council or, if there is none, the teachers’ council, parents’ council and pupils’ council. That is why they are not in the calendar above.
- Limit per school year: primary school up to 8 days, general secondary up to 10 days, technical and vocational schools up to 10 days.
- They may include exam days (eighth-grade exam, matura, vocational exam), religious holidays that are not statutory days off, or other days justified by how the school runs or local needs.
- The head must inform pupils, parents and teachers by 30 September. This year’s deadline has passed, so your school should have the list: check the e-register or website, or ask the school office. For vocational exam days, the school may inform you by 31 December.
- On these days the school must organise supervised care activities and tell parents about them. There are no lessons, but a child who needs to come in has somewhere to be.
- In particularly justified cases, with the governing authority’s consent, the head may set further days off, but those lessons must then be made up on set Saturdays.
